Bulk Material Handling

Powder and Granular Materials

The control system is a vital part of any bulk material handling application. With many years of industry experience, Nol-Tec Southeast is unmatched in its ability to provide the best bulk material handling and batch process control systems in the industry. Our sales engineers work closely with you to completely understand your specific requirements. Nol-Tec Southeast's engineers have years of experience successfully creating control systems for complex bulk material handling, weighing, and batching processes.

User-FriendLy  Operator  Interface

Nol-Tec Southeast's HMI systems utilize graphic imaging to create screens that closely resemble actual processes and equipment in your plant, thus increasing operator awareness and efficiency.

Bulk Material Storage and Unloading

Nol-Tec Southeast has experience controlling a variety of convey equipment for:

  • Bag
  • Bulk bag
  • Truck and railcar unloading
  • Transfer to silos, bins, and weigh hoppers

This includes controls for:

  •  Various bin dischargers
  • Convey line switches and diverters
  • Point and continuous level sensing
  • Dust collection

Silo Level Inventory

One of the more challenging tasks is monitoring actual material levels in silos and bins. There are a number of continuous level indicators on the market that work with varying degrees of success depending on material bulk densities, dusting conditions, temperature, etc. In some cases, tank-mounted load cells are the best option. Our engineers have the experience to recommend and integrate the best solution for a specific application.

Dense Phase Pneumatic Conveying

Our knowledge and experience with all types of dense phase conveying (purge systems, full line concept, dense phase vacuum, continuous) give us the ability to provide controls for new or expanded systems. We also have extensive experience retrofitting existing dense phase system controls.

Dilute Phase Pneumatic Conveying

Nol-Tec Southeast engineers have experience designing control systems for the various types of dilute phase conveying - pressure or vacuum - along with associated equipment and devices.

Blending

Powder materials can be efficiently and accurately blended utilizing compressed air. Nol-Tec Southeast engineers are experts with many years experience in air blending.

Weighing & Batching

Many processes require that precise quantities of various ingredients be brought together to make up a specific batch or formula. This typically involves metering materials individually into a weigh hopper using a device such as a screw feeder, airlock, or butterfly valve. Nol-Tec Southeast's PLC-based weighing systems combine years of experience with our standard features such as fast/dribble speed, automatic preact, jog, tolerance alarms and state-of-the-art data collection and reporting.

Metered Delivery and Injection

Nol-Tec Southeast is an experienced supplier of metered dry sorbent delivery and injection systems for emissions control. These PLC and HMI based systems include continuous loss-in-weight feeders, pneumatic conveying and injector controls.

Dry Sorbent Injection Systems for Air Pollution Reduction

When fossil fuels, such as coal, are burned, SO2 and SO3 form in the exhaust flue gas. As these pollutants travel through duct work, they can cause corrosion and damage to downstream equipment. When escaping into the atmosphere they can form a visible plume and generate particulate emissions. They are also known for their detrimental effects on human health and the environment, as they may cause smog, acid rain, and ozone depletion. Increased awareness of these problems has led to more legislation and increasingly tighter standards to regulate these harmful emissions.

Injecting dry powdered sorbents (such as hydrated lime, Trona and powdered activated carbon) directly into the ductwork by a controlled method assists in the mitigation of SO2, SO3, Hg and resulting particulate emissions. The dry sorbent will react with SOX in the flue gas, removing the pollutant from the gas stream via downstream electrostatic precipitators or bag houses. In the case of hydrated lime, the result of the reaction is synthetic gypsum, which is collected along with fly ash and can be sold to gypsum wallboard plants.

Nol-Tec Southeast has provided numerous control systems for these applications. These PLC and HMI-based systems include loss-in-weight feeders, pneumatic conveying and injector controls. They have been installed in brick plants, coal-fired power utilities, municipal waste incinerators and medical waste incinerators. The largest of these systems was recently installed at a coal fired power plant and incorporated Allen-Bradley ControlLogix PLC’s, RSView32 HMI’s and PowerFlex adjustable frequency drives.
